bahubali

I FAILED. I wanted to prevent my-self getting goose-bumps at any moment in “Baahubali”. I chose a small theatre with small screen, with no Dolby audio system. But yet I failed… miserably. There were not one but several moments where I got goose-bumps.
A splendid movie. Don’t miss. You might be missing an Epic or Classic in Indian Cinema.
I was an ardent reader of “Chandamama” kathalu, in my childhood. I still love them. The director sits beside you, narrates a chandamama story with grand visuals, and super narration. He brings to life, the characters which we loved in Chandamama. Loved every moment of the movie. There are certain exaggerations, and illogical scenes, but such things are expected in a chandamama story.
I now know, why Hollywood & international critics and Bollywood critics are giving the movie great reviews. I can understand, why a Hollywood studio wants to remake it in Hollywood. What I don’t understand is the poor reviews given by telugu critics and negative talk by few telugu audience. Over expectation perhaps.
Bahubali is a vision of a person, put on a grand scale, helped by his whole team, the result is stupendous. It reminds you of several Hollywood movies. But you cannot pinpoint a scene which is being lifted from a Hollywood movie. There is no copying anywhere. Any war will have weapons and army. So it reminds of “300”. But can you make a war scene without weapons and army?
The movie stands at par with Hollywood movies and yet retains the Indianness. It’s a “Hollywood body with Indian Heart”. There are certain moments, which can be enacted only by an Indian Director. E.g. The elegant fight-dance sequence with strip tease of Avantika, revealing the warrior’s feminine side. The elegance of Shivagami, breast feeding both little Ballala Deva and Bahubali with blood on her face, sitting on the throne. Shivudu submerging the whole shivalingam in the water, with the thundering background song. There are many more such scenes which can be enacted only by an Indian Director.
SS Rajamouli sir. I bow to you. I am proud being an indian movie fan, for giving the world, a movie at par with Hollywood.
For those who have not watched the movie yet, go watch it now. Don’t go with any of telugu reviews or opinions. Go to get enjoyed and enthralled and relive the Chandamama story or a amar chitra katha which you read in your childhood.
I will be definitely going to watch it in a big screen with Atmos Dolby system. Time for more goose-bumps.
